Raisins! Raisins! Raisins!

The Girl gave us all some raisins this week!

WE LOVE RAISINS! So much! We would eat them all the time, if only we could! The only thing we might love more is PUMPKIN SEEDS! We love them so much too! And we especially love PEANUTS! Oh, peanuts are SO GOOD!

But until we can get some pumpkin seeds or peanuts, we have our raisins! And they are SO GOOD!

Mommy Gerbil goes to the vet!

Mommy Gerbil (Kisses) had to go to the vet! She had a swollen paw, and so the humans took her to see the vet.

The vet was very careful with Kisses and gave her some medicine to take. It was sweet and sticky, but Kisses still did not like it at all. The humans would catch her and hold her very carefully, and then put a few drops of the medicine into Kisses mouth.

After a few days, Kisses paw looked much, much better!

Daddy Gerbil is gone :(

Daddy Gerbil died, and we are all very sad!

Poor Irwin. He sat next to Daddy, and tried to cuddle up next to him, but Daddy was too sick, and he died.

Irwin lives all alone in his cage now. He is the only boy gerbil left!

Bye Bye Daddy Gerbil! We loved you!

Four cages!

We have four cages now! Daddy Gerbil (Hugs) and Irwin live in one cage, just like before.

Mommy Gerbil (Kisses) and Inky live in another cage. Stinky and Dinky live in a cage all by themselves now! And Winky has a cage all to herself!

Our humans said that Winky did not play well with others. She had to go live all by herself because she kept picking fights with other Gerbils.

Winky even had to go to the vet! The vet said that giving Winky her own cage where she could see her family, but not bite them, would be the best thing.

So now we live in FOUR cages! And the BIG SCARY SCRIBBLES still looks in at all of us!

The Monster Has a Name!

Help!

The Monster has a name! We found out that it is not a Monster after all! It is a cat!

And it's name is SCRIBBLES!

WE DO NOT LIKE SCRIBBLES!

MONSTER! MONSTER! MONSTER!

The Giant Monster won't go away!!! We thump at it, and we try to wave our paws, and tell it to GO AWAY, WE ARE NOT TASTY! but the Giant Monster won't listen!

It just sits on top of our cages, and looks down at us. Sometimes, it sits next to our cages, and peers in. IT IS SCARY, AND WE DON'T LIKE IT!

THE GIANT MONSTER!!!

Help! There is a GIANT MONSTER standing on top of our cages!!!

Winky had a boo-boo!

Uh-oh!

Winky had a boo-boo this month! :( She hurt her foot (or maybe somebody else chewed on it) and so for two and a half days she had to live in the Hospital Tank.

Winky was NOT happy about that. She "thumped" to her Mom and Sisters that were in the Girls Tank. They thumped back. Even her Dad and Brother Irwin thumped, too.

After two and a half days, her foot looked a lot better, and she was running around just fine. So, The Humans put a big plastic cup into the Hospital Tank, and when Winky ran in to see what it was all about... they covered the end, and then quick-as-a-wink moved the cup back over to the Girls Tank. All of the girls were very happy to see Winky again, and now everyone is happy again!

Everyone is happy!

Hi there!

We are all happy and healthy this month! All of us are having lots of fun, digging in our fluff and eating our favorite treats!

Our Humans take very good care of us. Sometimes, extra Humans (called "Company") come over, and peer in at us. Most of the "Company" are nice, but a few of them tap really hard on the glass, and talk too loudly which can be scary for us!

We are going to go and tunnel in our fluff now! See you again next month!

Yummy Treats for Us!

Our Humans have been busy, but every day they give us food, and make sure our water bottles are full and clean.

When The Mom gets the food, we get really excited and happy! We scurry around in our cages, because we can hear the crackly sound the plastic makes.

The Mom gets a little plastic scooper, and she scoops out food from the crackly plastic bag two times for each cage.

We run right out to get our food!

But our favorite times are when The Mom and The Girl give us our favorite Treats!

Honey Nut Cheerios are an excellent Treat! We love them very much, but we only get them about once a month. The Mom laughs and laughs, because she says we are cute when we hold them in our front paws.

We like to bury them in our fluff, and then go back and find them later. They are like little circles of Gerbil Happiness!

But our best favorite Treat ever is OATMEAL! We REALLY LOVE THE OATMEAL!

When The Mom gives us Oatmeal, we are very, very happy.

Sometimes, we get so happy and excited that we just sit right inside our food dish to eat!

Listen to the Music!

For a while, our cages were being moved all the time, but then The Humans found a lovely spot for us in a place they call "the living room". We like it because The Humans are always around, and there is a nice big TV with more Humans for us to listen to.

Then, one day an even better thing started happening! The Human called "The Grandma" started to play the piano every day. When The Grandma plays the piano, we are all so happy that we come out to listen!

We all love to hear The Grandma play the piano! Every afternoon, we stop crunching and digging and tunneling in our fluff to listen to the music! We are lucky gerbils to have such lovely music just for us every day!

Moving Moving Moving!

Ever since The Humans started to do things to the big cage they live in, we have been moving from room to room to room!

For a few days, we even stayed in a big room called "the garage". Even though it was cold outside, it was nice and toasty in "the garage", and we got to see things we have never seen before! The Humans even put a little TV on the table so we could see and hear other Humans all the time. We like it best when we can hear the Humans - it makes us happy!

Then, one day, the moving around stopped. We were all very happy about that, because we did not like getting bounced around every time our cages had to be moved!

We like where we are now. The Humans call it "the living room", and there are almost always Humans there, and there is also a nice big TV with more Humans! Best of all, there is no more moving all the time!

Goodbye to Cashew :(

Poor little Cashew died. :(

We are all very sad, and The Mom, The Dad and The Girl all cried too.

Goodbye little Cashew.

Cashew is sick :(

Cashew is not doing very well. We are all very sad, and we want her to be her funny, cheerful gerbily self again.

Two Cages!

The Mom and The Girl had a surprise for us!

But it wasn't a very happy surprise! :(

Now we are living in TWO CAGES! The Mom says that it is so we won't "gerbil" again.

The boys (Hugs and Irwin) are living in the first cage. The girls (Kisses, Cashew, Inky, Stinky, Winky, and Dinky) are all living in the second cage together.

At least The Mom put our cages right next to each other so that we can see each other through the glass...

More Babies!

It wasn't long after we had our first three babies that we had FIVE more!

Aren't they cute? We were very proud, and Cashew was a very good big sister!

The new litter had four girls, and one boy! The Girl named them Inky, Stinky, Winky, Dinky and Irwin!

Sometimes, it gets a little crowded when we all sleep together, but we don't mind!

Baby Pictures!

We have been very busy!

First, we had three babies. We were very happy, and The Girl named them Peanut, Cashew, & Filbert.

But, Filbert died right away. :( It was very sad.

Then Peanut died, even though the The Mom sat up all night trying to help him. That was sad, too.

But Cashew kept going and growing! And she became very pretty!

Cashew was white all over! No brown fur like us at all!

She grew quickly, and it wasn't long until she would be a Big Sister!

Raisins! Raisins! Raisins!

Hi!

Guess what? The Mom and The Girl have been giving us RAISINS!

We LOVE raisins so much! Whenever one of The Humans puts them in our food dish, we run right out, and grab one up. Then we run back into our house, and sit down to eat it. We don't even care if The Cats are watching us through the glass.

We will try to pose for some more pictures soon, but The Humans never seem to have the camera handy when we are our cutest!

New Fluff!

Well, we have been having lots of fun!

The Mom and The Girl and even The Dad keep our cage covered and safe. They make sure we have lots of fresh water in our bottle, and we get new crunchy food (we love those pumpkin seeds the best!) every day.

But they keep changing our fluff!

When we were little tiny babies, we lived in a cage that had no fluff at all. The only stuff to dig in, and hide the best seeds in, was the little chewed up bits of cardboard boxes that our own mom had made.

But The Mom, and The Girl, and even The Dad change our fluff all the time! Just when we get it the way we like it, they change it all around again! We get all of our tunnels just right, and we get all of the softest fluff in our favorite spot... and then they go and change it.

Sometimes it is hard to be a Gerbil!

Still Crunching Away!

So, it's us, Hugs and Kisses! We are still crunching away on everything that we can!

The Girl, and The Mom put cardboard tubes and boxes in here. We can nibble right through a small tube (like a toilet paper tube) in about 5 minutes, and the longer tubes (like a paper towel tube) in about 20 minutes! One of our favorite things to chew on is those cardboard thingys that hold drinks from the fast-food places! We *really* like those! Plus, they have all sorts of interesting little holes already made in them, so there are lots of places to start chewing!

We have decided to use the dish that The Girl put in our cage to hide our treasures in! It is very sturdy, and Hugs tried to bite it once, and it wouldn't even *bend*, so we think it is a very safe place! We put our best seeds in there, and then cover them with our favorite scraps of cardboard left over from the boxes and tubes we don't chew up completely. Then, we cover it all with bedding, to hide it from The Mom and The Girl, and especially those pesky cats!

The Mom and The Girl find our treasure dish every time! Even when Kisses runs out and squeaks at them, they still empty it out, and put it back. But then they put fresh new seeds in, and sometimes they put back the best of the scraps, so it's OK.

We have to go and crunch some more!

Love, Hugs and Kisses!

Moving Day!

Well, it turned out that The Girl and The Mom put us in the little box with the handle so that they could move everything from our cage to the new BIGGER cage!

And, it is a LOT bigger!

Now, we have room for all sorts of things in our new BIGGER cage! We can have boxes to chew on (although Hugs still loves paper towel tubes the best!) and our little wooden houses that we love to hide our seeds in, too. We have lots of lovely room to make tunnels in the bedding, and we can run and play all the time!

See you soon!

Bigger Cage!

Wow! Whatever "Christmas" is, we really like it!

First, everyone in the house got up really, really early. (before the sun even came up!) Then, we heard them in the other room. There was a lot of happy noises, and then The Girl came running in!

"Guess what! Guess what!" She was almost YELLING! It hurt our ears! "You got a NEW CAGE!!! A bigger one! 20 gallons!" She ran back to the other room. It got quieter, which is good, because loud noises scare us!

The next big thing that happened was The Girl and The Mom captured us! They put us back into the little clear box with the handle on it! We thought for sure that we were going away somewhere...

Nibble, Nibble!

Today we chewed up a whole toilet paper tube!

We have been learning a lot of new things! One of the things we learned is that the taller lady is the Mom of this house. The Girl (who is kind of our Mom) is our best favorite, because she gives us treats!

The Girl held us a lot today! At first it is scary, because we feel like we are way up in the air, but she makes us feel safe. She also gave us two whole pumpkin seeds!

The Girl had to take out one of our houses because we were digging under it so much, it almost fell down on us.

We need to go chew on something...

Love, Hugs and Kisses!

Hi!

We are Hugs and Kisses, and we belong to The Girl. One of us is a boy, and one of us is a girl. Can you guess which one?

Hugs is boy, and Kisses is a girl!

The Girl brought us home from school, and we are going to live with her, and some other Humans here!

We will do our best to be charming and cheerful correspondents!

We will post more soon!
